Public Health Notice
Health Canada:

Did you know that 80% of child and youth head injuries, including concussions, treated in emergency departments are related to sports and recreation?

When your children are out playing — whether in a team sport like hockey or tobogganing — keep them safe by taking the right precautions:

·         Make sure your children wear proper safety gear, especially a helmet designed for the activity taking place. Helmets, face protectors and visors should have the CSA mark of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).

·         Hockey helmets must show the date the helmet was made. Helmets more than five years old should not be bought or sold.

·         Do not allow your children to sled near roads, parking lots, rocks, trees or fences, and never let them skate or play near open water.

·         Use a neck warmer instead of a scarf, and removing drawstrings and cords from clothing to prevent these items from getting caught or tangled on objects.

For more information, please visit the Web pages Sports gear safety tips and How to prevent injuries while skating

Also, learn more about how to reduce your risk of getting a concussion here.

Inter generational Community Project – Supporting Social Participation and Inclusion for Seniors

[A team of LSA students (Sec. 3-5) enjoyed their final workshop session for this school year with a group of enthusiastic seniors from our Laval community. Over the past couple months a group of LSA students have been involved in an inter generational project providing support and instruction on the introduction and use of ipad technology. Both students and seniors alike, enjoyed the opportunity to connect, share stories and support their learning goals.
